Desiree addresses how you and your dog can exercise together and how to do it properly. Because of her background in physical therapy and her love of dogs, Desiree has begun focusing on dog/human health. In this course she’ll show you how you and your dog should both warm up and cool down as well as exercises you can do together – no more excuses for us couch potatoes to sit on the park bench with a Chuck It!
A versatile athlete and certified personal health & fitness professional, Desiree Snelleman became interested in dog training when she began the intriguing and challenging process of raising two sibling Siberian Husky puppies. She realized that many of the principles she used as a human trainer could be applied directly to dog training and vise versa. She also realized that many of the wellness issues we are dealing with as humans are just as prevalent in the pet world. This inspired Desiree to launch Fido ’N Friends…in Motion, a company that serves to promote, educate, influence and create optimal health and well-being through exercise for both pets ‘n people.
Desiree has worked in health and fitness for over 20 years. She has her teaching and coaching credentials from the Norwegian University of Sport and Physical Education and another degree in athletic training, sports medicine from San Diego State University. Desiree is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and a certified personal trainer/member of the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). Desiree is also a seasoned presenter. She has both developed and presented workshops on a variety of health, fitness and performance topics. As the Corporate Manager of Training and Development for The Sports Club Company, a leader in the fitness industry, Desiree presented “Core Training” for 400+ trainers, instructors and managers nationwide.
On the dog side Desiree is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), the American Canine Sports Medicine Association (ACSMA) and the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS). Desiree has been a presenter for both the Dog Sense and Instructor Course at Terry Ryan’s Legacy Canine Behavior and Training Center. She has also done presentations for the SPCA-LA and a number of other organizations. She has completed a year-and-a-half dog training internship with Terry Long and DogPact in Long Beach, CA. She also earned a Counseling Certificate from The San Francisco SPCA Academy for Dog Trainers with Jean Donaldson and has attended two of the Bailey and Bailey chicken camps. In addition, within the last year-and-a-half, Desiree has logged over 500 hours in continued education in dog training.
Desiree is currently splitting her work schedule between providing active pet care services, working as a canine conditioning consultant and training human clients. She does one-on-one private training and also teaches group classes at Jump Start Dog Sports. In her spare time she trains and plays with her own dogs in agility, canicross and dog scootering.
