Raising Canine

4 Stages of Learning

Course Information:
Wednesday, April 3, 2019
10:00am-11:00am Central

In January we discussed good timing, adequate motivation, achievable criteria and solid rate of reinforcement. Now we’ll talk about the next phase of dog training, and that’s actually getting the behavior. There are four phases in learning a new behavior and they are:

  • Acquisition
  • Fluency
  • Generalization
  • Maintenance

If we’re going to be a positive trainer, it’s important to know how to get behavior without using aversives, so that means we need to understand how we actually get behavior. Armed with this knowledge, we can make informed choices.
